Warner Bros. Games launches Game of Thrones: Dragonfire on mobile

Warner Bros. Games and HBO have officially released Game of Thrones: Dragonfire globally on iOS and Android. This free-to-play mobile strategy game is set during the Targaryen civil war, allowing players to step into the role of a dragonrider. At launch, the game features 28 dragons, including both well-known names and new original creations designed specifically for this title.

The game's release coincides with the upcoming third season of House of the Dragon, debuting on June 21st. Players can enhance their experience by linking their accounts to HBO Max, which enables them to unlock in-game rewards by watching new episodes of the series. This integration aims to deepen the connection between the game and its source material.

Game of Thrones: Dragonfire builds on the legacy of previous mobile titles based on George R.R. Martin’s works, following the success of Game of Thrones: Legends, which earned $23.6 million in player spending by its first anniversary. The new game emphasizes large-scale strategy gameplay, letting players control multiple dragon-led armies and vie for territory throughout Westeros. Warner Bros. has stated that the game will operate through seasonal ‘reigns,’ resetting territorial competition while allowing for long-term progression, such as dragon development.

Why it matters

JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. Discovery, expressed enthusiasm for the launch, highlighting the immersive strategy experience that aligns closely with the themes of House of the Dragon. The release follows a pre-registration campaign that aimed for 10 million sign-ups prior to launch.
