Umamusume: Pretty Derby Hits $100M Mobile Revenue in First Year Overseas
Umamusume: Pretty Derby has achieved a significant milestone, generating $105.7 million in gross player spending on mobile platforms within its first year outside Japan. This success was particularly bolstered by the Brand New Friends story update and the Kitasan Black Support Card gacha banner, which drove daily player spending to an impressive peak of $2.2 million globally on July 16, 2025. Originally launched in Japan in 2021, the game expanded to the global market on June 26, 2025, after already amassing billions in revenue domestically.
In its first month overseas, Umamusume: Pretty Derby earned $20.2 million, with its second month proving to be the most lucrative at $22.5 million from both Google Play and the App Store. However, revenue saw a significant decline in the following months, dropping to $10.4 million and has struggled to reach seven-figure daily earnings since then. The United States has emerged as the primary market for international spending, contributing $74.3 million, or 70% of the total overseas revenue. Canada and Australia follow, with $5.7 million and nearly $4.3 million, respectively.
Despite the substantial earnings from the U.S., it only accounts for 3% of the game's lifetime revenue when considering its performance in Japan. Daily spending figures were initially promising, with a peak of $256,000 on June 28, 2025, just days after launch. However, following the peak on July 16, spending has not surpassed $600,000 daily and has yet to hit $500,000 in 2026.
The recent release of Umamusume: Pretty Derby - Beginning of a New Era in North American cinemas on February 27 did not result in a discernible spike in mobile spending. The closest surge occurred on March 12, coinciding with new in-game content that introduced a gacha banner featuring Kitasan Black and Matikanetannhauser, alongside a new career mode called Trackblazer and the story event Flying Run-Up.
Why it matters
As the game celebrates its first overseas anniversary, it is currently collaborating with Sega’s StarHorse4, offering new stamps, songs, and an increased number of Daily Race Tickets. Following the international rollout, Cygames expressed initial concerns about the game's reception in Western markets, but reported positive feedback from various regions worldwide.
