Morocco Gaming Expo Highlights Studio Growth and $3 Billion Goals
The Morocco Gaming Expo (MGE) in Rabat showcased significant developments in the local gaming industry, including major studio expansions. GameEarly announced plans to establish a regional hub in Rabat by late 2026, while Pixoul Gaming confirmed its goal to open a subsidiary in Casablanca by 2027. Additionally, Ivalice Studio, a local developer founded in 2025, took the opportunity to present its first game, Rogue Fantasy: Ever-Shifting Worlds.
This year's expo attracted a record 80,000 visitors, marking a notable increase as Morocco strives to strengthen its position in Africa's gaming landscape. Currently, the country ranks fourth in Africa, trailing Egypt, Nigeria, and South Africa. Morocco's ambitions include generating MAD 30 billion (approximately $3 billion) in revenue, capturing 1% of the global gaming market, and creating 1,000 direct jobs by 2030. The Rabat Gaming City project is a key component of this vision.
Why it matters
Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, emphasized Morocco's shift from being merely a consumer of video games to becoming a creator and exporter of storytelling in the gaming sector. On the institutional front, the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion and SMIT recently established a partnership to launch the Gamification Lab, which aims to incorporate gaming technologies into various industries, including tourism and culture. Furthermore, Morocco is set to make its debut at Gamescom in Cologne this August, featuring a 102m² national pavilion that will host several Moroccan companies.
