Roblox unveils new play, creation and monetisation tools at RDC 2026

Key takeaways

  • Players spent 29 billion hours on Roblox last quarter across 180+ countries.
  • Chrome play arriving by end of 2026; wider Roblox Everywhere availability mid-2027.
  • Build has helped publish ~9,000 games; 71% of those creators hadn’t used Studio before.
  • Roblox Wallet will pay eligible US creators (18+) in real currency every business day; Roblox Card in 2027.

Roblox used its 12th annual Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) to announce a broad set of platform, creation and monetisation features as it marks 20 years alongside its creator community. Highlights include Roblox Everywhere (standalone apps for mobile, PC and consoles), Chrome play arriving by the end of 2026, and new offline play support; early access begins soon with wider availability targeted for mid-2027.

Platform-level changes aim to make Roblox easier to access and more varied to build for. Roblox Everywhere will let creators ship standalone apps across mobile, PC and consoles, and players will be able to play directly through Chrome without installing the Roblox app by the end of 2026. Offline play is under development so creators can combine offline solo sessions with live multiplayer; Roblox says early access is coming soon and wider availability is planned for mid-2027. The company also reported that players spent 29 billion hours on Roblox in the last quarter across more than 180 countries, and it celebrated more than 20 years with its community during RDC.

Creation and live features add both new toolsets and social mechanics. The engine is gaining 2D support through an orthographic camera, animated image containers and direct sprite-sheet imports, plus refreshed UI features. A notification system for turn-based asynchronous multiplayer will enter Studio Beta in October and move to full release by year-end. Social updates include a Friends chat tab that follows players between games, voice typing, and Quick Words—pre-set phrases creators can add that are reviewed for policy compliance. Moments, Roblox’s gameplay video discovery feature, is expanding across the US and will let players purchase items shown on avatars starting in October.

Build, Roblox’s prompt-based creation tool, is expanding its public alpha to Serbia and Singapore after creators used it to publish roughly 9,000 games so far; 71% of those creators had never used Roblox Studio before. New Build features include an asset library, desktop access, iterative controls, analytics and monetisation tools, and mobile game advertising support is coming. Scene Generator will arrive later this year to generate functional scenes from text prompts and reference images, and new NPC behaviours—among them NPCs that can playtest—are being added. Discovery ranking updates are being tested to account for game length preferences across age groups and to measure how many new players a game brings to Roblox.

Monetisation updates put cash flow and conversion tools closer to creators. Roblox Wallet will allow eligible US-based independent creators aged 18+ to receive earnings in real currency every business day, with Roblox Card linked to Wallet rolling out in 2027. The company said creators have earned more than $5 billion through DevEx since 2013, about $1.7 billion of that in the past 12 months, and Roblox Plus incentives have generated over 300 million Robux in creator earnings.

Why it matters

Takeaway: creators now have faster access to real earnings via Roblox Wallet, new browser and offline play paths for players, and a wave of authoring tools—Build, Scene Generator and expanded engine features—that lower the barrier for publishing across platforms.
