Control9 Emerges from Goddess of Victory: Nikke Developers with New RPG
The developers behind the successful mobile game Goddess of Victory: Nikke have formed a new studio called Control9, which is working on its first game, Miresi: Invisible Future. Co-CEOs Soon-gu Cho and Se-woong Kwon are leading the studio, with illustrator Hyung-sup Kim, known as Hyulla, also contributing to the project. Miresi: Invisible Future is a time travel RPG set to launch on both PC and mobile platforms.
Publisher Smilegate has initiated pre-registrations for Miresi ahead of Anime Expo 2026, where attendees will have their first chance to experience the game in North America. Those who pre-register at the game’s booth in early July will receive special rewards. Control9 boasts a team of key developers who previously worked on both Goddess of Victory: Nikke and Seven Knights 2. Hyung-sup Kim, leading the art direction, has previous experience creating artwork for multiple games, including Goddess of Victory: Nikke.
Players will follow a protagonist known as the Councillor, who teams up with various heroines to save a world on the brink of destruction. The combat system is designed to incorporate both real-time and turn-based mechanics, emphasizing character positioning as a strategic element.
Initial feedback from players at events such as the Tokyo Game Show and the Anime x Game Festival indicated a high satisfaction rate with the game's 2D illustrations, with nearly 90% of attendees expressing satisfaction. However, 3D model quality received a lower approval rating of 70%. In response, the development team plans to revamp the 3D models, focusing on enhancements to the eyes and facial structures.
Why it matters
While an official release date has not yet been announced, Smilegate is actively recruiting creators for its Partner Creator programme. This initiative targets creators with at least 100 followers or subscribers, offering benefits such as access to an exclusive Discord server and priority invitations to various events. Jae-young Han, Smilegate's head of business for Miresi, stated that participating in Anime Expo aims to connect with global players and facilitate better communication about the game. The studio plans to unveil more updates through various channels in the future.
