App Store Ecosystem Hits $1.4 Trillion in 2025
Apple's App Store ecosystem generated over $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales in 2025, as confirmed by a study from Analysis Group. Notably, more than 90% of these transactions did not incur any commission for Apple, highlighting a significant shift in revenue dynamics. Since 2019, the size of the ecosystem has nearly tripled, with physical goods and services accounting for $1.1 trillion of total billings. Key sectors driving this growth included grocery, food delivery, retail, and travel. Meanwhile, digital goods and services contributed $149 billion, bolstered by games, enterprise applications, and video streaming services. In-app advertising revenue also saw a substantial increase, reaching $151 billion.
During 2025, the App Store averaged over 850 million weekly users across 175 countries and regions, providing developers with a vast customer base. Apple noted that artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly integral to the platform, with over 40 of the top 100 apps incorporating consumer-facing AI features. These AI-enabled apps experienced stronger billing growth compared to their counterparts.
Why it matters
Regionally, the App Store's facilitated billings and sales have shown remarkable growth, more than doubling in China and tripling in both the United States and Europe over the past six years. Apple CEO Tim Cook remarked on the milestone, emphasizing the essential role of developers in the App Store's success and their ongoing creativity in shaping the future of app development.
