YouTube Playables expands to 50+ markets including EU and Nordics

Key takeaways

  • Playables is now available in more than 50 markets, including the EU and Nordics.
  • Playables supports web builds using standard rendering APIs such as WebGL and Canvas.
  • Developer access is in early access; submissions go through YouTube’s Playables interest form.
  • AI Playables Builder closed beta launched in late 2025, limited to US, Canada, Great Britain and Australia; requires active channel and approval.

YouTube has expanded Playables to users in more than 50 markets, adding the EU and the Nordics to the list of regions that can play interactive games and experiences directly through YouTube’s apps and website. Playables run in-browser on the platform, so users can launch bite-sized games without leaving a video or the YouTube app.

The service accepts web builds that use standard rendering APIs such as WebGL and Canvas, which means engines and frameworks that export to the web can be used. PocketGamer.biz lists engines previously used for Playables including BabylonJS, Cocos, Construct, Defold, melonJS, Phaser, PixiJS, PlayCanvas, React, three.js, Godot and Unity, giving developers a wide set of options to produce compatible builds.

Developer access to Playables remains in early access. Studios and individual creators who want their games considered can submit through YouTube’s Playables interest form. Separately, YouTube launched a closed beta for an AI-powered Playables Builder in late 2025 that uses Gemini 3 to generate playable experiences from text, image or video prompts; that beta is limited to creators in the US, Canada, Great Britain and Australia and requires an active YouTube channel and application approval.

Why it matters

If you make web-game builds, Playables now reaches a broader European footprint and accepts standard WebGL/Canvas exports; developers can apply via the interest form, while the AI Builder beta stays limited to the US, Canada, Great Britain and Australia and needs an approved channel to join.
