Xsolla and Pley Team Up to Enhance Browser Game Monetisation for Mobile Studios
Xsolla has joined forces with Pley to help Unity mobile game developers port, distribute, and monetise their games effectively through PC and mobile browsers. This partnership enables access to over 700 payment methods across more than 200 geographies, tackling monetisation issues in regions where major app stores offer limited local payment support. Notable markets include Brazil, Poland, the Philippines, Mexico, the Middle East and North Africa, and other parts of Africa, where payment methods like Pix, BLIK, GCash, OXXO, MoMo, and carrier billing are prevalent.
Pley's Unity-native SDK allows studios to port their games to browsers within weeks without the need to rebuild core game logic, supporting over 98% of desktop browsers. Additionally, Pley Connect facilitates player progress transfer between mobile and browser platforms. Xsolla reports that studios operating across both mobile and browser channels have observed multi-platform players exhibiting 2.5 times higher playtime compared to those on a single platform. Furthermore, studios have experienced a 50% decrease in player acquisition costs in markets where browser channels are utilised.
Chris Hewish, president of Xsolla, noted that many mobile studios miss out on significant revenue in regions where potential players are unable to make purchases. He emphasised that Pley simplifies the process of bringing mobile games to the web while Xsolla addresses payment barriers, thus providing studios with a comprehensive solution without the lengthy eighteen-month development time previously required.
Why it matters
Carles Tomas Marti, CEO of Pley, added that the collaboration offers mobile game studios a streamlined and sustainable approach to web distribution, whether through their own platforms or third-party sites. The partnership aims to integrate world-class payments, webshops, and commerce capabilities into the gaming ecosystem.
