Softgames outlines acquisition strategy for instant and mobile games
Key takeaways
- Seeks web and mobile casual games with proven audiences and healthy retention and monetisation.
- Open to acquiring individual titles, catalogues, IP, or entire studios with tailored deal structures.
- Operates 500+ casual instant games across Meta, Google, Microsoft, Reddit and Samsung.
Softgames has published a clear acquisition playbook as it builds a home for instant and mobile casual games, following its purchase of Funday Games’ back catalogue earlier this year. The German company said it is actively pursuing web and mobile casual titles that already have proven audiences, healthy retention and monetisation metrics, plus technology that can be integrated quickly into its stack.
The company said it can acquire individual titles, catalogues, IP or entire studios, and that deal structures will be tailored to each game or team. Softgames highlighted practical advantages it brings to acquired projects: platform relationships, live-operations support, data and infrastructure, and monetisation expertise. It also uses AI-enabled tools intended to speed global releases and streamline game upgrades, letting teams move out of day-to-day ops and into higher-level work if they choose.
CEO Alexander Krug framed the approach as selective rather than acquisitive-for-scale. “Every title must stand on its own before our reach and expertise can help it perform better,” he said, and added that teams arrive in different situations — some, like Funday, wanted to refocus; others may transfer full ownership. Krug promised a simple, fair process and noted many developers are tired of running a game across multiple platforms alone; Softgames says it aims for fast, transparent deals and is clear about what it can and cannot do.
Why it matters
Founded in 2006, Softgames already operates more than 500 casual instant games across Meta, Google, Microsoft, Reddit, Samsung and other platforms. If you run a web or mobile casual title with demonstrable retention and monetisation and you’re open to selling a game, catalogue, IP or studio, Softgames is offering tailored exits plus platform scale, live-ops and AI tools to handle the heavy lifting.
