Konami to remove Grimoire of Souls from Apple Arcade on Aug 20
Key takeaways
- Relaunched on Apple Arcade in September 2021 for iOS, tvOS, iPadOS and Mac
Konami has announced that Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls will be removed from Apple Arcade on August 20 and will go fully offline on September 3, after which the game will no longer be playable. The company posted a message thanking players for their support and the development and operations team also expressed gratitude to everyone who had been part of the game’s journey.
Grimoire of Souls first launched in September 2019 as a free-to-play iOS and Android release in Canada and was discontinued a year later. Konami later relaunched the title on Apple Arcade in September 2021 for iOS, tvOS, iPadOS and Mac. The Apple Arcade version removed the game’s in-game currency and microtransactions, and Konami said it revised layouts and improved the graphics as part of that relaunch.
Konami did not provide a reason for the removal. In its statement the team wrote, “Thank you for playing Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls. Since its launch on Apple Arcade in September 2021, the game has continued to be supported by many players. We would like to express our gratitude to all of our players for their enthusiastic support throughout the years. The entire development and operations team sincerely thanks you for being part of this journey.”
Why it matters
Takeaway: August 20 is the removal date from Apple Arcade and September 3 is the absolute cutoff — September 3 is the last day anyone will be able to play Grimoire of Souls, per Konami’s announcement.
