Honkai: Nexus Anima Enters Closed Beta Next Month

Hoyoverse has announced that its upcoming title, Honkai: Nexus Anima, will enter closed beta testing on July 9, available on iOS, Android, and PC. This creature-collecting adventure allows players to team up and battle alongside companions known as Anima, reminiscent of the Pokémon formula. The July beta marks the second player testing phase for Nexus Anima, following the limited early 'Nexus Bond Test' that took place in August and September of 2025.

Despite the anticipation, Hoyoverse has yet to reveal a global launch window for the game, which will be the third installment in the Honkai series, following Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai Star Rail. While Hoyoverse has excelled in the open-world adventure category on mobile, the similarities among its games have raised concerns about player cannibalization.

In September 2023, it was reported that Honkai: Star Rail achieved remarkable success, generating $1 billion in in-app purchases within five months of its global release. However, the promotion of Star Rail to Genshin Impact players inadvertently shifted high-spending users to a title that monetizes less effectively, resulting in a net decline across Hoyoverse's game portfolio.

Why it matters

Looking ahead, Hoyoverse's next project, Zenless Zone Zero, also poses similar risks. According to Appmagic data, Hoyoverse has amassed nearly $8 billion in lifetime in-app purchase earnings across its top four games, but the titles launched after Genshin Impact have not led to overall revenue growth. Genshin Impact remains the leader with an estimated $4.8 billion since its launch in September 2020, while Honkai: Star Rail has earned approximately $1.8 billion since its debut in April 2023. Honkai Impact 3rd, which launched in September 2016, has made around $884 million to date, and Zenless Zone Zero has garnered about $420 million since its June 2024 launch. Additionally, Hoyoverse is developing Petit Planet, an Animal Crossing-like game, which has undergone various soft launches and testing phases recently.
