GTA VI Launch May Shift Mobile Gaming Spending

GTA VI Launch May Shift Mobile Gaming Spending

A recent survey by FirstLook reveals that the launch of GTA VI could significantly impact player spending in certain mobile game genres. With 94% of respondents indicating plans to purchase the game, nearly a third of players expect to reduce their overall spending on games during the release window in November and December 2026. The survey, which included 2,000 players from the UK and the US, found that 29% anticipate spending less on games during this period. Players expect GTA VI to be priced around $78, which is below the rumored $100 price point. Notably, 59% of those surveyed believe the rumored price is too high, while 40% consider $100 to be a fair price.

Eden Chen, CEO of FirstLook, explained to PocketGamer.biz that the potential impact on mobile gaming will likely be felt most in genres that share audiences with core PC and console titles. While casual mobile games are expected to remain stable, the mid-core segment may experience a decline as players redirect their attention and spending towards GTA VI. Chen noted that previous major releases have not typically disrupted the mobile market significantly, but he believes GTA VI could be an exception due to the industry's response to its launch.

Why it matters

He highlighted that the movement of console and PC developers away from the November release schedule suggests widespread anticipation for GTA VI, which is also reflected in the survey's findings of expected decreased consumer spending during the launch period. According to Chen, while casual titles like Monopoly GO! and Royal Match are likely safe, mid-core strategy, role-playing, and shooter games may see reduced player engagement, given their overlap with the core console gaming audience.
