FIFA Unveils Multi-Partner Digital Football Strategy Ahead of 2026 World Cup
FIFA has announced its new multi-partner Digital Football Strategy as it gears up for the FIFA World Cup 2026. This strategy marks a shift away from relying on a single exclusive football gaming partner, instead focusing on creating a diverse gaming and esports ecosystem that encompasses various genres and platforms. The lineup includes confirmed titles such as eFootball, Football Manager 26, FIFA Rivals, FIFA Heroes, FIFA Super Soccer, and the forthcoming FIFA World Cup Launch Edition, alongside esports collaborations with Rocket League.
During the announcement, FIFA shared impressive engagement statistics. The Roblox experience, FIFA Super Soccer, developed in collaboration with Gamefam, boasts over 10 million monthly active users and has surpassed one billion total plays. FIFA Rivals has also made significant strides, achieving over 2.5 million downloads globally since its launch. Additionally, the FIFAe competitions through KONAMI’s eFootball attracted over 16 million players, contributing to an impressive 1.1 billion views generated within the FIFAe ecosystem last year.
FIFA outlined several future initiatives, including more information on a football simulation project with Netflix and Delphi Interactive set to be revealed in June. FIFA Heroes is slated to launch on mobile and PC before making its way to consoles, and FIFA plans to expand into non-simulation football experiences. The organization will also host five FIFAe Continental Championships leading up to the FIFAe Finals 2026, as well as the inaugural FIFAe Festival next year.
Why it matters
The FIFA license was once synonymous with a singular and dominant football gaming experience during the EA Sports FIFA era, which featured authentic content like stadiums and national teams. However, following the split between EA and FIFA in 2022, the landscape changed significantly. FIFA has since sought new partnerships rather than rushing to develop a new flagship football simulation title. While upcoming titles will carry the FIFA branding, existing games like Football Manager have already received updates, and eFootball is also expected to incorporate themed gameplay modes.
