Block Blast Removed from Google Play Store, Now Back
Block Blast, the popular puzzle game comparable to Tetris, was recently unavailable on Google’s Play Store but remains accessible on the iOS App Store. Currently, the game does not show up in the Play Store's charts, search results, or on the developer Hungry Studio's page. We reached out to both Hungry Studio and Google for clarification, but have yet to receive a response. However, an update from Hungry Studio confirmed that the game has returned to the Play Store, although no explanation was provided for its brief absence.
In January, Hungry Studio reported that Block Blast had achieved remarkable milestones, with 70 million daily active users and 300 million monthly active users across over 200 countries. The game was a leader in download charts for 2025, closely following Roblox in the rankings. In its debut year, 2023, Block Blast was the fifth most downloaded game of the year.
Why it matters
Jason Wang, VP of Hungry Studio, highlighted the studio's rigorous approach to optimization, stating that they conduct over 50 A/B tests weekly involving various features, visuals, and gameplay mechanics. Despite a high failure rate of about 97%, Wang views this as a strength in their development strategy. He also emphasized that user acquisition (UA) strategies play a crucial role in the game’s growth, acknowledging the competitive landscape of UA, and noting that developers can no longer rely solely on these strategies to succeed.
