GameDiscoverCo published a ‘Steam Fan Snapshot’ on the 16th showing 42.4% of surveyed Steam users play only PC games and 15.6% use PC, console and mobile across a month. Founder Simon Carless shared results drawn from more than 16,000 Steam users who participated via an online giveaway promotion.
The survey defined platform use as playing more than one hour per month on a device. Under that rule, 91.5% of respondents reported at least one hour of PC play per month. Cross-platform breakdowns put PC+mobile (no console) at 22.0% and PC+console (no mobile) at 11.5%.
GameDiscoverCo linked consenting respondents’ questionnaire answers to their actual Steam library data for the analysis. Participants were recruited through online prize entry, and the dataset combines self-reporting with real library records for the matched subset.
Why it matters
Carless noted the sample is centered on actively engaged Steam community members rather than a random cross-section of all PC gamers. In this snapshot, then, PC usage is overwhelmingly common: most respondents log PC play monthly and a large minority stick to PC-only, while only about one in six bridge all three platforms.
